Carmichael commits for Webber WBBL|11

The Sydney Sixers have continued to add depth to their playing squad ahead of Weber WBBL|11, with Mathilda Carmichael recommitting for the upcoming season.

One of the competition’s most dependable performers over the past decade, Carmichael has officially put pen to paper for her third season in Sixers colours.

Born and raised in New South Wales, Carmichael rose through the junior hockey ranks reaching the Australian Hockeyroos squad, before making the switch to professional cricket and relocating to Western Australia.

After seven seasons with the Perth Scorchers, the classy right-hander made the move back to her home state, joining the Sixers ahead of WBBL|09.

A member of the Scorchers inaugural WBBL championship side, the 31-year-old has made 62 appearances in the competition, with more than 400 runs to her name to date.

One of Western Australia’s most consistent performers at state level, Carmichael was once again one of the top run-scorers in the domestic game last summer, notching 344 runs in the WNCL

Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said the club was delighted to secure Carmichael’s services again this summer.

“We’re extremely lucky to have a number of terrific, experienced players who set the standard for our younger players, and Tilly is an outstanding example of that.

“Tilly brings versatility to our batting unit with the ability to move up or down the order and perform numerous roles. She's shown that shes's able to adapt to a situation as needed and provide a cool head who can find runs in difficult situations and finish games.

“We want to keep good, hard-working people at our club, and Tilly is a player who embodies the professionalism and values that make our club strong. Her knowledge and experience is unbeatable for our group."

Speaking on her re-signing, Carmichael said:

“I’m really excited to be back with the Sixers and looking forward to what will be another great year in a really challenging competition.

"We know how competitive the WBBL is, and I can’t wait to get back out there with this group and continue to push ourselves.

"Having four home matches at North Sydney Oval is something I’m especially looking forward to. It’s such a special ground for us and always creates a brilliant atmosphere with our fans.

"Hopefully we can make the most of that home support, put in some strong performances, and do our best to challenge for a spot in the finals this season.”

Carmichael’s signing leaves two domestic places remaining on the club’s list for the upcoming summer.

The Sixers are set to open their Weber WBBL|11 campaign against Carmichael’s former side, the Scorchers in Perth on Sunday, November 9.
