The allrounder sat out the Sixers trial game against the Hobart Hurricanes as a precautionary measure on Tuesday but returned strongly in yesterday's trial match at the SCG.
Speaking to Sixers TV Abbott was happy with the hit out – in which he took 2 wickets and blasted an unbeaten 59*. More importantly, doing both with no sign of the discomfort that held him back in the previous fixture.
“It was actually a really good game today. Sometimes those intra-squad matches can peter out or lack intensity if one team is dominating the other – but it was great to get that match intensity back today. I feel good.”
He was also pleased with the opportunity for the team to get a match in at the SCG before season proper.
“It was great to be out at the SCG, it’s quite a different wicket to ones that we often play on, so it was nice to get out on our home turf and work on our skills there.”
With an enormous Sydney Smash pencilled in for Tuesday night, Abbott was frank with his teams’ approach to the fixture.
“They hype is starting to build now. We obviously don’t want to lose to them (The Thunder). They are big rivals of ours and we absolutely want to start our season on the right foot by getting over the top of them in that first game.”
The Sydney Sixers begin their BBL|07 campaign against the Sydney Thunder at Spotless Stadium on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
