The Sydney Sixers have today announced Daniel Hughes has re-signed with the Club, on the same day that tickets for the upcoming Big Bash season.
Hughes, who was a joint winner of the Sixers Player of the Tournament last season, rejoins the Club for another two years after making a big mark on last year’s tournament.
In BBL|06 he top scored with 85, was Player of the Match twice and featured in the top 10 run scorers for the tournament last season.
His re-signing comes as tickets for the Big Bash go one sale across the country, with the Sixers to host five home matches at the SCG this coming season.
The additional home match, resulting in a 10 game home and away season, will see the Club take on key rivals the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Stars both at home and away this season.
The Sixers will also host their traditional rivals, the Sydney Thunder, in the Sydney Smash, as well as the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers. Three of the five matches will also feature the WBBL, with double headers to see the women take on the Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat at the SCG.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond said the re-signing of Hughes was a reward for a great season last summer.
“Dan was an outstanding addition to the Sixers in BBL06 and we are very pleased to have secured his services for another 2 years,” said Remond.
“He was our leading run scorer and has really found his game in the T20 format. We are looking forward to him getting us away in the power play this season.”
In regards to tickets on sale, Remond said the upcoming summer of Big Bash was looking to be the biggest yet.
“We are thrilled to be hosting five games at the SCG this summer, and delivering the ultimate family night out,” he said.
“The Sydney Smash on Saturday 13 January is now a must see event over summer, with the game selling out the last three seasons.
“We are looking forward to new fans coming and experiencing the hype and can guarantee something different for each game with our match day themes. Of the five games, we are very excited that three of these feature both the WBBL and BBL teams, and will provide a fantastic, full day of Big Bash cricket.”
