Run-scoring machine Daniel Hughes put in a man-of-the-match performance with a mighty 98 not out in the first innings of New South Wales' clash with Queensland. Hughes smacked 17 boundaries in his knock. He backed up in the second innings to help NSW secure the win with 23 not out.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques posted a solid score of 36 in the first innings and Sixers big-hitter Nic Maddinson scored a handy 24 runs in the second innings.
Sixers bowlers Sean Abbott and Nathan Lyon proved to be dangerous with the red ball against Queensland. Abbott ripped through the Bulls taking 5 wickets in the match. Lyon was also impressive as he claimed 4 wickets in total. Also, Peter Nevill’s glove work excelled as he took seven catches behind the stumps.
For Tasmania, Sixers middleman Jordan Silk had a promising performance with 36 runs and took a skilful diving catch in the field. However, after being hit on the helmet by Peter Siddle, Silk was ruled out of the game on the second day with a delayed concussion.
In Sydney First Grade, Sixers Academy star Axel Cahlin posted a terrific score for Gordon against a strong Manly side. He smashed 18 fours and a six in his knock of 116, which saw Gordon take the win.
The fourth round of the Sheffield Shield begins this week with NSW taking on rivals Victoria at North Sydney Oval, while Tasmania play South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
