With the Big Bash season fast approaching, Silk said he was looking forward to joining his teammates ahead of their tournament opener.

“After the Shield game in Perth it’s pretty much straight to Sydney to prepare for that first BBL game,” said Silk.

“I can’t wait to hopefully have a great season with the guys.”

Silk acknowledged the loss of Sixers fan favourite Lee will be felt, but is confident that the former Test bowler will be able to fill the void.

“I think losing Brett Lee has hurt our bowling a little, but we’ve replaced him with Jackson Bird, so haven’t lost much and we’ve gained a couple of good players.”

Sixers fans will be hoping man dubbed by Ricky Ponting as “the best fieldsman in the country” can provide a few more stunning highlights throughout BBL|05, following two stunning grabs that have turned Silk in to a viral sensation over the last two seasons.

Since his first-class debut in 2012-13, Silk has developed into one of Australia's most promising young batsmen, scoring a century in that season's Sheffield Shield final and earning the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award in 2014.

A proven match-winner, Silk’s highlight with the bat for the Sixers was a stunning 69* off 43 balls to get the Sixers over the line against the Sydney Thunder in BBL|04.

The right-hander smashed five sixes on his way to Man of the Match honours as the Sixers claimed the spoils off the last ball of the match.

Silk will turn out for Tasmania in their Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at the WACA from Sunday.

The 23-year-old was playing for the Cricket Australia XI against the touring West Indies in Brisbane when told of his state selection, forcing him to make a mad dash to the airport.
