Mickey Edwards returns to the Sixers alongside his brother Jack, who will join the Club as its Development Rookie for the summer.
Their signing comes off the back of another big signature for the Club, with new Major Partner Toyo Tires coming on board for three years.
The partnership will also see an exciting match day promotion with a $100,000 prize up for grabs if a player hits a six through a tire target at cow corner.
“We want to bring old school fun and fireworks to our BBL experience and give fans a shot at a century of their own,” said Jose Angeles, Toyo Tires Australia Marketing Manager.
“Cricket is Australia’s most played sport. Big Bash League is one of the fastest growing games, it made sense for Toyo Tires to pad up and join in this summer.”
Sixers Head Coach Greg Shipperd said the signing of the Edwards brothers boosted the Club’s young talent pool.
“Our bowling stocks have received a boost with the re-signing of emerging young paceman Mickey Edwards who showed some eye-catching rhythm and pace in the recent JLT series,” Shipperd said.
“T20 bowling demands the ability to bowl under pressure and through three quite individual phases of the game we know that Mickey has that relaxed and calm demeanour and displays the requisite appetite to compete at this level. Swing, bounce and pace are skills he can deliver and we are keen for him to join our young group including Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis and Henry Thornton.
“Looking to the future I can see the ‘brothers in arms’ in magenta creating great headaches for opposition teams in the BBL.
“Jack at this stage is more of a top order specialist batsman, shaping as one of New South Wales' best young talents. I have also seen his lively medium pace deliveries which are pushing him into the allrounder category, a blessing for team structures.
“We welcome Jack into our fold and expect him to learn rapidly surrounded by some serious cricketers who are happy to share their knowledge with him.”
Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond also lauded the signings.
“We are very pleased that Mickey has worked through his injuries to re-join the Sixers for BBL|07,” Remond said.
“His height, pace and accuracy have really caught the eye in the last few years and we are hoping it will all come together on the field for him this season.
“Jack is a young all-rounder with huge potential who will gain an lot from being around the squad over summer. The boys are both from the Manly club, a key team in the Sixers region”
Remond also celebrated the signing of Toyo Tires as the new Major Partner of the BBL team.
“We are excited to have Toyo join us for BBL|07 as our Major Partner. They are an innovative brand and we are looking forward to their fan engagement activities at the SCG this summer.”
The Sixers start their BBL|07 campaign on Tuesday 19 December against the Sydney Thunder at Spotless Stadium, followed by their first home game of the summer at the SCG against the Perth Scorchers on 23 December.
The BBL|07 squad is: Moises Henriques ©, Sean Abbott, Sam Billings, Jackson Bird, Johan Botha, Ben Dwarshuis, Mickey Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Nathan Lyon, Nic Maddinson, Peter Nevill, Stephen O’Keefe, Jason Roy, Jordan Silk, Mitchell Starc, Henry Thornton. Development Rookie: Jack Edwards
