Sixers women on top of the WNCL

On Friday, the NSW Breakers proved dominant against the Queensland Fire at Blacktown International Sportspark. Limiting QLD to 225, Ellyse Perry took the most wickets of the match with 3/37 as fellow Sixers spin bowler Lauren Smith claimed two wickets also. Perry also contributed a quick 17 runs in NSW victory over the rival state. 

Across the border, the ACT Meteors held off the Victorian Spirit to steal a 30-run win at Manuka Oval. Sixers all-rounder Dane van Niekerk put on a show with the most runs and wickets in the match. She scored 63 runs (74) and slashed seven boundaries in her innings. She took important wickets in the match with figures of 3/31 in her 'Man of the Match' winning performance. 

Yesterday, ACT Meteors added another win to the tally board with victory over the Queensland Fire. Dane van Niekerk continued her excellent form with another half century which featured eight smashing boundaries. Sixers new-comer Erin Burns contributed with 24 runs (18) before unfortunately being run out. Sixers star Marizanne Kapp and van Niekerk took crucial wickets in the match and was able to help the team win by 66 runs. 

The NSW Breakers were powerful again on home soil as they took on the Victorian Spirit. Sixers wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy opened with a brilliant 68 runs (66) and smashed an exciting 12 fours and a six in her innings. Perry helped NSW reach a total of 302 with a handy 30 runs (39). Perry and Smith both took a wicket each as they restrained Victoria to 212 and sealed a 90-run victory.

Ashleigh Gardener has been a great new member of the South Australia Scorpions after moving there this season. In two matches, she has scored 41 runs and taken one wicket so far.

Round two of the WNCL will begin in November after the Australian Women's Ashes series.
