Squad named for blockbuster Sydney Smash

The Sydney Sixers have named a 17-player squad ahead of their blockbuster clash tomorrow night, hosting crosstown rivals Sydney Thunder at the SCG.

The biggest rivalry in the league, the Sydney Smash is set to go to another level tomorrow night with the inclusion of Australian superstars Steve Smith and David Warner.

The pair will face off in the Big Bash for a second consecutive summer, with the Sixers hoping for a repeat of Steve Smith’s heroics last season, smashing 125* in one of the best knocks in the competition’s history.

The biggest match of the season to date, the Smash is closing in on sold out with an expected crowd of over 40,000 filling the SCG tomorrow night.

International recruit Tom Curran comes out of the squad for tomorrow’s match with a knee injury forcing the all-rounder out of the remainder of the competition.

In addition to Smith, local replacement Ryan Hadley returns to the extended squad and will be required to be named in the 12 tomorrow.

First ball of Friday night’s clash is scheduled for 7.15pm (AEDT) and will be broadcast live via Channel 7, Fox Cricket, Kayo and SEN.

Gates open tomorrow at 5.15pm.
