The Sydney Sixers continue to make Coffs Harbour their second home, joining forces with Cricket NSW and the Coffs Harbour District Cricket Association (CHDCA) to launch the Sixers Cricket League (SCL) ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The rebranded CHDCA competition, the Sixers Cricket League was officially launched with a Come and Try Day at Leisure Park in Coffs Harbour yesterday.
The SCL aims to help enrich the experience of the cricket community on the Coffs Coast and drive Big Bash fandom to deepen the community’s existing relationship with the club.
The Sixers will head to Coffs for a BBL match once again this summer, with the side set to face the Brisbane Heat at C.ex Coffs International Stadium on January 3.
The Sixers and Cricket NSW aim to deepen the connection the club has with the community throughout the year and this partnership has been developed in conjunction with the CHDCA committee and local clubs to deliver great cricket experiences for Coffs Harbour and its surrounding community.
The SCL will see cricketers from Macksville to Woolgoolga, Urunga to Dorrigo, and Sawtell to Nana Glen, compete throughout the season via the nine clubs that are represented by the CHDCA and three nearby associations including the Nambucca Valley Cricket Association.
The multiple clubs’ participation will bring in a chance of renewed camaraderie within the region, and also the possibility of bragging rights.
Under the Sixers Cricket League moniker, the CHDCA will offer U12, U14, U16 and Senior Grades this summer. The Association has four Senior Grades with six teams in each grade.
To foster participation and support the community focus of cricket, Fourth Grade is a modified senior competition allowing the juniors to come through and often play with their parents.
Of the partnership, President of the CHDCA, Aaron Singh said:
“The cricket community at Coffs is excited about the partnership and to rebrand as the Sixers Cricket League. Growing the game is a big focus for us and this will help to promote cricket further in the community.
"All clubs currently have their registrations open for the new season and the Sixers Cricket League will offer many more opportunities for the local community to play and love cricket.”
Martin Gleeson, Chief Community Cricket Officer, Cricket NSW, said:
“CHDCA has a rich history of promoting cricket at all levels and we believe that partnering with the Sydney Sixers will provide significant opportunities for engagement, growth and development for the local game.
“This partnership will aim to enhance the development of cricket in the region, strengthen our collective engagement with the community and to deepen the relationship with the Sydney Sixers Club in and around Coffs Harbour.”
