Young gun joins Sixers ranks

The Sydney Sixers have continued to put the final touches on their playing list for the upcoming Weber WBBL season, signing local spinner, Isabella Malgioglio for WBBL|10.

Born and raised in New South Wales, Malgioglio is a product of the NSW pathway system, rising through the ranks as a junior and making her debut with the NSW Breakers in early 2022.

Affectionally known as ‘Isa’, Malgioglio had her first taste of the WBBL environment last summer, signed as a local replacement player for Sixers crosstown rivals, Sydney Thunder, for the back end of the tournament.

Speaking about the opportunity to sign on with the Sixers this season, Malgioglio said she's looking forward to soaking up as much as she can from her new teammates.

“I’m really excited to be onboard with the Sixers this season. I’m really looking forward to being around such a class group of players and I know I’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot along the way.

"I can’t wait to get together with the group in the next couple of weeks and get started.”

A right-arm leg-spinner, Malgioglio was one of the leading wicket-takers for her home club, Parramatta last season, snaring 14 wickets in the women’s first-grade competition.

The 22-year-old is now set to join one of the most ferocious bowling groups in the league, lining up alongside fellow spinners, Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Ecclestone and Amelia Kerr, under the tutelage of long-serving captain, Ellyse Perry and esteemed head coach, Charlotte Edwards.

Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said the opportunity for Malgioglio to be part of the squad would be an unbeatable experience for the up-and-comer.

“Isa is a fantastic young player who has earned her opportunity through hard work and consistent performances at grade level.

“She’s risen through the ranks of our state pathway programs and we’re excited to see her take on this next challenge with the Sixers.

“Isa is keen to learn and to continue to work on her game, and the opportunity for her to be around some of the best players in the world will be unbeatable for her growth and development.

“We’re very excited to have locked in another piece of our squad for this season and can’t wait to kick things off at North Sydney Oval next month.”

Malgioglio’s signing leaves one domestic spot remaining on the Sixers list for the upcoming season.

The Sixers will kick off their Weber WBBL|10 campaign in Adelaide on Sunday, October 27 before facing reigning champions, the Adelaide Strikers, at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday, October 29.
