A trio of Sydney Sixers have claimed top honours at the Australian Cricket Awards, with the ceremony taking place in Melbourne last night.
Sixers captain, Ellyse Perry was named the WBBL Player of the Tournament, alongside Brisbane Heat’s Jess Jonassen, with the pair polling 25 votes apiece in their stellar WBBL|10 campaigns.
The WBBL and BBL Player of the Tournament awards are decided by the standing umpires in each home and away season match, with each submitting votes on a 3-2-1 basis.
The leading run-scorer throughout the WBBL|10 season, Perry notched an outstanding 424 runs, at an average of 53 to claim the BKT Golden Bat.
She was additionally recognised with selection in the WBBL|10 Team of the Tournament and named captain of the WBBL Team of the Decade.
The team, voted by an expert panel, was adjudged to have made the greatest on-field contributions throughout the League’s first decade, including runs, wickets, dismissals and contribution to key matches.
Sixers vice-captain, Ashleigh Gardner was named the Women’s ODI Player of the Year, notching 385 runs (at an average of 38.5) in addition to taking 23 wickets (at 15.52) across the voting period.
BBL marquee signing, Josh Hazlewood was also rewarded for an outstanding international season, taking home the Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year Award.
Collecting 30 wickets, at an incredible average of 13.17, Hazlewood’s summer included two five-wicket hauls.
Alongside those awards, Gardner and Hazlewood both polled strongly in the Belinda Clark Award and Allan Border Medal voting, finishing second in the respective counts.
The awards for international cricket are based on votes from players, umpires and the media on a 3-2-1 basis from each match.
