Sixers congratulate Edwards on England appointment

The Sydney Sixers congratulate Charlotte Edwards on her appointment as head coach of the England Women’s team, as announced today by the ECB.

A highly regarded and much-loved member of the club for the past three seasons, Edwards was named as successor to long-time head coach, Ben Sawyer, ahead of Weber WBBL|08, leading the club to the WBBL Final in her inaugural season.

The former England captain has remained one of the most respected figures in the women’s game since her retirement, with a coaching resume spanning English domestic cricket and global T20 leagues, claiming titles with the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League and The Hundred’s Southern Brave.

Beginning her time in the WBBL as a player, Edwards represented the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers prior to accepting the head coaching role with the Sixers.

Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes congratulated Edwards, thanking her for her contributions to the club.

“Lottie has been an outstanding leader and a much-loved member of our club over the last three seasons, and we thank her for her time at the Sixers.

"Her appointment with the England national side is incredibly well-deserved and while we will miss her deeply at the Sixers, we wish Lottie nothing but the best for this next chapter.”

The Sixers will begin the recruitment process for a new WBBL head coach in due course.
