Sixers secure top spot in Weber WBBL|11 Draft

The Sydney Sixers will head to the upcoming Weber WBBL|11 Draft with top spot in hand, successfully drawing the coveted Pick 1 in the draft lottery.

The Sixers have additionally locked in Pick 6 in the KFC BBL|15 Draft, as all clubs look to secure the best international talent from around the world.

Both the WBBL|11 and BBL|15 Drafts have been confirmed for June 19, with an earlier timeslot in the year to assist clubs in their planning and recruitment for the seasons ahead.

The portal for overseas players nominations will officially open on April 28.

Last season, the Sixers successfully retained Sophie Ecclestone, when the English superstar was selected by the Hobart Hurricanes with the first pick of the Draft.

Ecclestone was joined at the club by Hollie Armitage and international pre-signing, Amelia Kerr, while in the BBL, the club will again have retention rights to long-time stalwart James Vince, as well as Akeal Hosein and Jafer Chohan.

Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said it was highly advantageous to secure the first pick.

“To enter the WBBL Draft with Pick 1 is a huge advantage for the club.

"The WBBL remains a fiercely contested and close competition each season, so to secure the first selection and give ourselves the best possible opportunity to add the elite talent to our group is extremely valuable.

"We pride ourselves on being a destination club in the league and we're looking forward to the opportunity to add further depth and overseas talent to both our WBBL and BBL sides in June."

Both drafts will be broadcast by Seven, 7plus, Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

The Lottery determines the order of selections in rounds one, two and four of the Draft, with round three conducted in reverse order.

Both the WBBL and BBL draft lotteries were conducted via two draws. Picks 1-4 for each draft were drawn from teams that did not participate in last season’s finals, with finalists then drawn for picks 5-8.
